War Angels end San Diego Surge 7 year Unbeaten Home Win Streak

The battle of the undefeateds was finally upon us. The San Diego Surge came into week five with a record of 3-0. Their opponent was their rival from up north, the Central Cal War Angels, who were also 3-0. Who would come out on top of this battle of undefeateds, well lets dig in and find out.

The first quarter started with the Surge failing a 4th down conversion on offense. Surge defense came back and got a 4th down stop of their own. The next possesion, the Surge would put together a drive that was capped off with a Adrianna Gutierrez Touchdown Run to give the Surge a 7-0 lead with 3:00 left in the 1st. The War Angels got the ball into the redzone as the 1st quarter of the game came to an end with the Surge up 7-0.

The War Angels finally got on the scoreboard with a touchdown run on the first play of the 2nd quarter. Surge stopped the War Angels on the 2pt try to keep the lead 7-6 with 14:54 left in 2nd. Surge drove the ball down to the 1 yard line with under a minute left. A holding penalty back the surge for a 3rd and long. The pass on 3rd down was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by the War Angels. A successful 2 pointt try followed and the Surge trailed 7-14 at halftime.

The second half was not friendly to the Surge at all. The Surge got a 4th down stop to start the 3rd but fumbled on the first play of thevfollowing drive. Surge defense held strong again with another 4th down stop. The following Surge Possession ending with the War Angels second pick six of the night. After a successful 2pt try, the Surge were down 7-22. On the final play of the 3rd quarter, The War Angels’ Destanie Yarbrough broke multiple tackles on here way to a 60 yd touchdown run. War Angels converted their third 2 point try of the game and led 30-7 after three quarters.

The Surge tried to put together a rally in the 4th quarter but couldnt get anything going. With War Angels put nail in the coffin with a 36 yd touchdown run to increase their lead to 7-36 with 7:58 left in the game. War Angels would add one more Touchdown run and 2 point converaion with 6:43 left to go up 44-7 and thats how the game would end. The San Diego Surge fell to the War Angels 7-44 for their first ever loss at home in team history.

The Surge will return home May 6th against the Kern County Crusaders. The Crusaders how been shut out in 3 of the 4 games they have playe (0-18, 0-48, 0-47), but have one win of 28-0 vs the Ventura Wolfpack (probably the worst team in the league). Things look good for the Surge to get back to their winning ways next week.
