A Day in the Life of an NFL Player Recap

On Sunday, a number of Women of Washington Redskins members watched football like they’ve never before – a bit closer to the game (and maybe even a tad sore).

This past weekend, WOW hosted A Day in the Life of an NFL Player: Football Camp for Women, presented by Toyota, and welcomed over 100 WOW members to the Inova Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park to experience what a day was like for any of their favorite Redskins players.

Leading the camp was Dr. Jen Welter, the first female coach in the NFL, and a fan favorite, Redskins Alum Santana Moss.

“It was a dream come true,” Welter tweeted. “Getting women in the field and in the game.”

Welter, who served as linebackers coach for the Arizona Cardinals in the summer of 2015, played 14 seasons in women’s professional football – earning two gold medals with the U.S. Women’s National Team. And now, bringing women closer to the game of football is at the forefront of her work.

“I’m committed to increasing access and opportunities for women in football,” Welter said. “Working with WOW, we designed my signature program and I envision this as the first event to kick off a movement bringing women into the game by getting them out on the field.”

The ladies at the camp were welcomed in the player’s auditorium with a full run-through of positions and plays. They were then taken to the field for dynamic warm-ups and then an experience of every position designed in an 11-station rotation of drills.

WOW member @danimackey explained her experience in one perfect tweet:

Alongside Welter and Moss, was a team of coaches with a resume just as remarkable. Welter rallied some of the best in the business, inviting teammates from her U.S. Women’s National Team Odessa Jenkins and Adrienne Smith, along with her coach, Anthony Stone – a USA Football Heads Up Football Master Trainer. She even pulled together top talent from the area, with a number of players from the National Championship team the D.C. Divas (Women’s Football Alliance – largest women’s full-contact football league) and Scion Rugby Academy.
